South view of Norwich City

Created by Major James D. Robertson to facilitate his own genealogical research, this compact disk is now available to all wishing to journey through their family's past in Norwich, Connecticut. The disk (version 1.0) contains the two-volume, 1200 page set of the Vital Records of Norwich, 1659-1848. The data is taken from a work done by the Society of Colonial Wars in 1913. Of this work, the Society says, "The scope intended is to present everything contained in the town records of Norwich in the way of vital statistics previous to the time when these records began to be kept under the more careful and elaborate system now in force." Put another way, this disk contains virtually every handwritten record for these 190 years: births - marriages - deaths. Preview a sample page.

Tomb of Rev. Benjamin Lord

In addition to the vital records of Norwich, this version contains inscriptions from gravestones in the old burying ground located in Norwich Town, Connecticut. These inscriptions were collected by Mr. George Porter of Norwich over a hundred years ago. It should be noted that some of the graves mentioned can no longer be found because the cemetery fell into disrepair and remained so for many years, suffering irreparable damage. It is now in pristine condition and a most beautiful place to visit.
